This bowl is built from approximately 120 to 180 individual segments — each one measured, angled, and fitted to a tolerance of less than one millimeter. Viewed from above, this bowl pulls your eye toward the center. The walnut and cherry segments are arranged in a diagonal spiral — each ring rotated against the one below it so the combined effect, when turned, creates the illusion of motion in static wood.
The tornado bowl is one of the most visually distinctive pieces in the shop. The geometry requires calculating the rotation of each ring relative to the last, then cutting and fitting every segment to maintain the spiral as the diameter changes from base to rim. The pattern has to work at every size and from every angle.
Top-down on a table it looks like a whirlpool. From the side it looks like a conventional segmented bowl. That contrast — the pattern that only reveals itself from above — is what makes this piece memorable.

Food Safe: Finished with food-safe mineral oil. Suitable for dry foods — fruit, nuts, bread. Hand wash only; do not soak or put in dishwasher.
Natural Wood: Wood is a natural material. Grain variation, color variation, and minor natural characteristics are inherent to the material and are not defects. Every piece is one of a kind.
Made to order in my North Carolina workshop. A 50% deposit is required at order with the balance due before shipment. Deposit is non-refundable once production begins.
